Generic Alternative to the EpiPen®

We know how important it is to have affordable access to emergency medications for severe allergic reactions. It was a shock to many of us to see the price of an EpiPen^®/EpiPen Jr® soar from $100 to over $600 over the last few years.  If you or your child need to have an emergency epinephrine auto-injector at home AND at school or work, this price becomes prohibitive.  We have researched and found a generic alternative that will cost both you and your insurance company much less.  Many of you will be able to get this epinephrine auto injector for no copay at all!   Here is a link to the coupon.

During your office visit with Dr. Allen, she demonstrated how to use an EpiPen^® and you were able to practice with a trainer device.  We have ordered a trainer device for this generic auto injector as well to have on hand in the clinic for practice.  Please make an appointment, if you need to discuss you or your child’s emergency allergy medications, if you need to renew a prescription for an auto-injector, or if you would like to have an opportunity to practice with Dr. Allen and the new trainer device. A few important reminders that apply to both EpiPen^® and Generic Epinephrine Auto injectors:

• For children under 66 pounds you should use the 0.15 mg dose.
• For children over 66 pounds or adults you should use the 0.30 mg dose
• Store the device at room temperature.  Do not leave it in a car!
• If you drop your device, check for damage or leakage.
• If you use your device, you must call 911.
• This medicine should be injected into the thigh, NOT the buttocks.
