Kathleen Allen, ND, IBCLC, FABNP
Dr. Allen is the clinic director and owner. She attended Vassar College in New York where she studied pre-med sciences and received a Bachelor of Arts in Biopsychology. As an undergraduate she spent time working as a research fellow in neurophysiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In 1998, she enrolled in the Naturopathic Medicine program at Bastyr University, the United States’ foremost institution of science-based natural medicine. A Bastyr education combines the knowledge of modern science with the wisdom of traditional healing methods and insists on consideration of a whole, individual person. Dr. Allen focused her studies on children’s health and midwifery. She developed a special interest in the way a mother’s health and her children’s health are interwoven. She graduated with a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and certificate in Naturopathic Midwifery in 2003. After graduation, she traveled to the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu and worked in the maternity ward of the Port Vila Hospital assisting dozens of women with the birth of their babies. Back in the US in 2004 she completed the lactation specialist and educator course through Evergreen Hospital. In 2009, Dr. Allen became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Dr. Allen has taught at Bastyr University as adjunct faculty in one of her areas of expertise: neonatology. In 2016, following successful completion of years of pediatric clinical study, case reviews, and board examination, she became one of the first physicians to earn the title of Fellow to the American Board of Naturopathic Pediatrics (FABNP). Dr. Allen is also the supervisor of a CNME approved pediatric residency training site.
Currently, Dr. Allen has an integrative medicine practice with special emphasis in pediatrics, women’s health, and lactation. She is a member of the Pediatric Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She supports the work of the Carnation Farmers Market, the SnoValley Tilth, La Leche League , the International Cesarean Awareness Network, the Nature Conservancy, the Washington Toxics Coalitions, and the Environmental Working Group. She lives on a forested farm outside Carnation, WA with her husband Joshua and their two sons . She especially enjoys cooking, mothering, sustainable farming, and gathering medicinal plants.
